Prior application submitted too recently care credit

Hello, I was preapproved for the Amazon Store card and applied. Here's the message/email I got:

"Thank you for your interest in the Amazon Store Card. Synchrony Bank needs more information from you to make a decision. Please call Synchrony Bank at 855-296-6043 with this reference number ******** to provide that information and get a decision.

If you are no longer interested in the card, no action is required."

I called in and was told that I had been denied on a different, "duplicate" application that was submitted on the very same day. I doubt that I somehow accidentally applied twice (though, I guess it's possible) . If this was really my mistake, then would there any some record of it actually happening? Like, would I have gotten two emails/messages rather than just the one I quoted above. (I mean, aside from the official 7–10 busines day email, which I'm still waiting for.)

There are two hard inquiries on my credit report now, so certainly two applications were processed.

Does their response even make sense? Why would they give me a reference number and ask for "more information from you to make a decision" if I was already declined on another application minutes or seconds (presumeably) before?

Hi @goldfishin - welcome to the community.

Whenever that message displays that usually means that you may have inadvertently submitted another application or refreshed the screen. I would wait until you get confirmation by mail to determine why the first application didn't take or if further information is required.
